Ravelry Giftalong 2016

I recently took part in the Ravelry Giftalong2106, for which I have just completed the Pitch Cowl by KnitEcoChic. See pattern here. I opted for the longer version so I could wrap it round twice.

DK linen yarn on offer.

Just a reminder that we are discontinuing the DK weight in order to concentrate on the Sport/4-ply weight in our hand-dyed linen yarn. Consequently, we are selling all our 100g hanks at only £10 each until they are gone.

Canary hand-dyed linen sport yarn

The latest addition to our hand-dyed sport linen yarn is Canary, a very pale yellow with subtle variations in shade. It already exists in the DK weight but we decided to include it in the Sport weight aswell.

New additions

Recent new additions to our range include a new colour in the 4-ply/sport weight: Fruit Salad.
A blend of juicy pink and tangerine orange.
Picture
We now also supply natural linen (undyed and unbleached) DK weight in 100g hanks. This has a much rougher and more rustic feel than the hand-dyed yarns.

Linen spa mitt

Picture
We have just released a new pattern for a linen spa mitt, now available in our shop.
This is a very easy knit and will make a great gift, or keep it for yourself!
Linen is ideal for spa cloths, given its healthy, eco-friendly, natural properties.
This pattern is free (with coupon code) when purchased with eco-stitch linen yarn (limited time only).

LINEN DK YARN PRICE DROP

As you probably already know, we currently supply our hand-dyed yarn in 2 weights: DK and 4-ply/sport.
These 2 weights are very similar in gauge, and we have decided for the moment to concentrate our future efforts on just the one weight: the 4-ply sport weight.
Consequently, we will be discontinuing the DK weight until further notice. We may decide to re-introduce it if a significant number of customers request us to do so.
We have therefore dropped the price of the DK to only £10 per 100g hank. We will not replace the colours available in DK, so when they are gone, they are gone!
We will continue to develop new colours in our 4-ply Sport weight.

Here's what we wound up with....

Our top quality linen is sourced from Europe and comes from just across the Channel.
Unfortunately, when it arrives, it isn't already wound in to neat hanks. We have to wind each of our skeins ourselves before dyeing them. Winding them one by one was just not an option. We needed something that would do several at once. So it was off to the drawing board, and here is what we came up with.
Picture
OK, it's not perfect, but I'm really proud of our winder. It is the result of a true family team effort. My father and I designed it and started to put it together, and my husband helped us to modify the design to make it more functional and finished off the assembling of the various parts. It is hand-made using wood and perspex. It might look like some weird contraption out of a Heath Robinson book, but IT WORKS.

Hint of Twist Linen Sweater

Picture
My latest project is a long-sleeved linen sweater knitted with our sport weight linen yarn. The colour is ocean green (soon to be available in our shop) and it took 400g. It is an extremely simple design in plain stockinette with just a subtle hint of a cable running down the middle of the back and front. It features dropped shoulders and the back falls longer than the front,

Linen twist spa cloth

linen yarn
We have issued a new pattern which is ideal for giving linen a try. This spa cloth can be made using a mini-skein of hand-dyed yarn, or you can make 2 with a solid dk 50g skein. If you are feeling more adventurous, a hand-dyed 100g hank will make 3 in DK or 4 in Sport weight.
I must admit that this pattern is quite addictive. It is a simple knit and easy to memorise.
Linen is an ideal fibre for spa cloths, since it is naturally exfoliating, as well as anti-fungal, anti-bacterial and hypo-allergenic.
Our linen can be washed in the machine on a gentle cycle (eg wool cycle) with a gentle detergent.
The linen itself doesn't mind repeated hot washes, but we recommend a gentle cycle in order to preserve the colours.
The pattern is FREE when you purchase our linen yarn. See the pattern page for the coupon code (offer available until 1/11/2016)

New linen yarn.

As mentioned in our earlier blog post, we now have a range of pre-dyed solid colours to complement our range of hand-dyed semi-solid and variegated linen yarn.
These come in 50g skeins and are roughly a DK weight, with 100m per 50g and they are very competitively priced.
I find it knits nicely on 4mm needles and crochets on a 3.5mm hook. This being said, you can go up or down in needle size, depending on how tight or loose a stitch you prefer. Linen yarn is quite versatile on gauge.

New pricing policy.

We also have a new pricing policy across our website. We really want linen to be accessible to all crafters, and so we have levelled off our prices on the hand-dyed yarn. At the same time, it remains more expensive than the pre-dyed yarn, for the obvious reason that there is so much work involved in the dyeing process. We hope to be able to maintain these prices for the foreseeable future.

MINI SKEINS of linen yarns

Never tried knitting or crochet with linen yarn before?
Why not try a small project with our new mini skeins?
Mini skeins are ideal for trying out a new yarn or for projects which require small quantities of several different colours.
These small skeins weigh 32-33g each (each one is the equivalent to a third of a large 100g skein).
There is enough yarn to knit a small spa cloth. There are some patterns in our pattern section.
We have only shown a few select colours in the mini skein option for the moment. If you see a colour that you would like in the 32-33g option, please send us a message and we will add it if we can.
